Filter for Libraries

Filter Systems

iWayPatrol Filter Network
When the user seeks an Internet site, that request is sent to the software filter. If filtering for the users workstation the search content or the site blocking list is checked and sent to the Internet address. If there is a problem, the user is notified. Response returned from the Internet is also checked for content labelling and textual content patterns. If the workstation is not filtered or the site is on the Library's do not block list, non of these checks are made.

Router rules are used to assure that the user can not access the Internet through a remote proxy or some other means.

The filter server can be installed as a classical proxy filter (with browser proxy settings at the workstation) or as a transparent filter (no proxy setting at the workstation)

Computer Hardware
The current and anticipated traffic is the issue which determines the size of the filter hardware required.

iTECH offers the SUN LX50 running the Linux operating system as the standard filter server platform. However, a wide range of hardware options, including the Library provided hardware, are available.

Workstation Hardware
A variety of scanner wedges and scanner keyboards can be used when the system is configured with the library card or user card filter override.

With iWayPatrol the librarian makes a decision, not a request to "unblock" a site.
