iWayPatrol for Libraries
is a filter designed specifically for the public library and responsive
to the First Amendment concerns and the concerns of the American
Library Association about the function of the library as an open
source of access to all information.
Filters Hardcore
Ponography
The iWayPatrol filter has four classes of sexually problematic sites. 1) The
Child Pornography sites depict young boys and girls in sexual activities. 2).
Hardcore includes sites which are self declaired as unsuitable for children.
Also included in this group are scatological, fetish, beastiality and masosistic
sites. 3). Sites classified as softcore do not meet the criteria for pornography
and includes nudism, modelling and glamore images. 4). Hardcore related sites
include portals for sex sites, seach engines and non-current sites with domain
names suggestive of their eventual use as hardcore sites. |

Capable of Filtering Additional
Categories
Depending upon Library Board Acceptable Use Policies, additional
categories can be filtered for children including softcore, alcohol,
tobacco, gambling, and other illegal activities. Such additional
categories are controlled by adjustments to the filter parameters under
the control of the local librarian. |

Adult Filter
Control and Override
iWayPatrol for Libraries offers several methods of dealing with filter managment.
One method is librarian control of filtering via an administrative screen.
A second method is the adult log in, either by id and password or via a swipe
reader that either uses the patrons id or the adult access terminal user card.
The third method is based on the iWayPatrol filter override. In this case the
patron only becomes aware of the filter if they attempt to access a blocked
site. A popup message indicates a site has been blocked and the patron
is given an opportunity to enter authorization from either an id/password,
a patron card or an "adult" access card.
Site Blocking Control
and Override
iWayPatrol for Libraries is based on a list of bad sites, self labeling by
the Web Page producers, DNS compliance and content pattern recognition. The
library has complete control over all the filter components. The librarian
can add and delete items from the blocking list, the librarian can adjust the
level of blocking for self labels. The librarian can turn off, modify
or tune the content filter. This product is the only system on
the market designed to keep the librarian in charge of what goes on in their
library

Easy to
Install and Use
iWayPatrol for Libraries is a system level transparent proxy filter. It
is installed as a turnkey operation by iTECH personnel. No proxy
settings are required in the browser software. All workstations pass through
the filter. If the workstation is non-filtered or in an override mode, no filtering
is done.
Easy to Maintain
Maintenance of the blocking lists are carried on via the Internet, by iTECH
personnel on a daily basis. Local control of the override data base
is via easy-to-use browser screens. All site adjustment and filter
parameter option modifications are also carried out via browser based administrative
screens. iTECH reviews the additional sites and the "overblocked" sites
in response to the librarian actions. |
With iWayPatrol the
librarian makes a decision, not a request to "unblock" a
site. |
