Filter for Libraries

Operations

Installation of iWayPatrol Filter Server

In most cases the server hardware at the Library data center either provided by the library or as part of a turnkey filter server. The library network and firewall/router must be configured to assure the routing to the filter.

Generally, there is no software added or maintained at the individual workstation. Use of the swipe card reader is requires the addition of a swipe-wedge or a swipable keyboard.

Installation of the iWayPatrol filter is done either by loading the software (via the Internet) onto a server provided by the library; or by installation of a pre-loaded iWayPatrol Server.

If the filter level is to be associated with the individual user, the data base of library patrons must be linked or ported to the filter server and filter level rules must be installed

Once the software has been installed, local filter parameters are set. These include workstation IP numbers and identifiers, label filter settings and content filter parameters.

On Going Operations

The maintenance of the blocking list is done via the Internet on a daily basis by iTECH staff. New sites are added to the blocking list: corrections to the list are made; and adds and deletes for site blocking are read to be reviewed by the iTECH staff. For example, if a librarian enters a site to be unblocked, the iTECH staff person reviews that site the next day. The unblock is perminent for the library which initially unblocked the site. If the iTECH staff person concers, that correction is downloaded to all the customers the next day.

The administrative program permits the librarian to add a site to the blocking list or permently unblock the site for their library. The librarian can also adjust the thresholds, the filter categories, the filter age grouping and filtering trigger phrases.

One option is control of workstation filtering activity via an administrative screen. In this configuration, the librarian can turn off the Internet access, turn off the filtering or turn on the filtering via an administrative page. In multi-facility libraries, the librarian in each of the buildings can control all the workstations in their own building. Central Office can retain control of the workstation access

Their are daily statistics available to indicate the usage, blocking and access. Their is no data retained on the users and no individual user reports are available from iWayPatrol
