Filter Software for the School District.

The Advanced District Filter

iWayPatrol's Advanced School Filter has all the functionality of the Standard District Filter and the Large Dirstrict Filter.  The major design difference is that by designing the access around logins the Advanced filter permits the filter administration by individual.

Based on a data base of users, the Advanced  iWayPatrol permits the District to filter the students, while not filtering the teachers.  Not only does this permit the filter to be used to focus on legal access issues related to the age of students, it permits the teachers to review the filter process itself to assure that good sites are not inappropriately blocked.  Non-filtering of teachers has the added advantage that teachers can work closely with advanced students on even the most problematic of topics.

The Advance iWayPatrol system also permits the use of pre-reviewed sites.  Some school districts select to use an access-only approach for very young students.  In this approach the the filter permits access to only pre-selected and pre-reviewed sites.  Students whose access is limited in this way can only access the pre-approved sites.

The age dependent site selection, elementary, middle school and high school can be assigned by individual.  This is useful where the IP-address information does not provide enough information about the user such as in the K-9 or K-12 school.

By using a login approach for Internet access, the administrative suspension or termination of Internet access privileges can be controlled.  If the district policy requires annual AUP signatures from the students and/or parents, their receipt can be used to permit or deny access to the Internet.

The Advance iWayPatrol filter has several administrative features and capabilities.  There is a building code in the user data base record.  There is also an extended administration which permits the system administrator to create Building Internet Administrator for each building in the district.  This Building Administrator can be responsible for status, AUP recording, access level and passwords for a reasonable set of students.  A standard data format can be used to transfer information about promotions, movement of students from building to building and the arrival and departure of students to the district from the administrative database to the Internet Filter database.  These advanced administrative services are valuable for any district but they are particularly valuable for Large City School  Districts.

The Advanced School package has all the filtering features of the Standard and Large District Filters:

  • multi-method filtering

  • variable filtering by age level

  • works with a wide range of hardware including Macs and firewalls

  • permits faculty override

  • local control of filter parameters and blocking lists.
